About Me

Hogan McGowan Gangaware

Southerner | Tennesseean | Shopaholic | Style Blogger | Hostess with the “Mostess” | Wife | Christian | Golfer | Dog Mom

I am a 28-year-old, born and raised southerner. I live in my hometown in West Tennessee, with my Engineer husband of two years, Evan, and my 12-year-old yorkie poo, Charlie. I am currently working full-time at a local boutique, Bayou Belle’s Boutique, and started this blog as a way to share my love of fashion and way of life here in the south.

I spend my week days greeting each customer with a warm welcome and a smile on the town’s historic square. Most Friday nights are spent at my parent’s recently renovated downtown historic home (locally known as McGowan Bar & Grill 😉) with my husband, parents, brother, sister-in-law and precious niece. When Evan and I are not at my parent’s, we love hosting friends and family in our home. Growing up, everyone always gathered at my parent’s house, so my mom has taught me everything there is to know about southern hospitality.

My goal is to share my lifestyle through fashion and southern hospitality. I hope you find my blog fun, relatable, and enjoyable!

Honeymoon | St. Lucia

Honeymoon | St. Lucia

Anyone undecided about their honeymoon or vacation destination needs to read this. We traveled to St.Lucia for our honeymoon on the Sunday after our wedding. We booked our honeymoon with Travelennium using Rebecca Dawson as our agent. It was our first big trip together, so we wanted to make sure we did it right. Let me tell you, we definitely did it RIGHT!

We booked an all-inclusive resort, Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort, for five nights. As soon as we arrived at the resort we had a butler waiting on us with drinks! He took our bags and showed us to our room that walked right out onto the beach.

Our room was amazing and did I mention it was right on the beach!? While on the beach, we had a waitress that brought us our towels as well as any food and drink we wanted. We tried out the local beer, Piton, that was named for the mountains surrounding the resort. It tasted a lot like a corona, so we enjoyed it! The waitress even brought us a cold towel to cool off.

There were four or five restaurants on the resort grounds for us to choose from. Our butler was in charge of booking our reservations for dinner. All of the food was wonderful, but our favorite was definitely the sushi bar. We had dinner most nights at the top of the resort with this amazing view.

This resort is referred to as a boutique resort which means it is a small upscale resort. It is so small that we only saw about five or six other couples while we were there.

They left a sweet treat on our bed each day. I took a photo of this one because it’s macaroons. We often call my nephew, Mac, macaroon! 🙂

Who remembers the original Nokia cellphone with the game snake? We each had our own Nokia phone to contact our butler. And yes, that is Evan playing snake! 🙂

We added a resort registry to our wedding website and were fortunate enough to get a few gifts from that. We were gifted a scuba diving session and were able to go 50 feet deep. I wish I’d had an underwater camera with me while we did that. It was seriously like “Finding Nemo” to me. It was really cool to see the coral reef and all the different fish. Our instructor took an underwater dry erase type board down there with us so he could tell us what each fish was.
We were also gifted resort bucks to spend on whatever we wanted. It rained one morning so we took advantage of the spa and enjoyed a couples massage.  If you check out the website, you will see how awesome the Rainforest Spa looks.

We had such a fun week as newlyweds on this beautiful island! You should definitely consider this resort for your next tropical vacation.

img_3652We flew back on that Friday into Knoxville so that we could meet our family for the Florida game. Evan and I went back and forth about whether we should go to Knoxville or not. We both, of course, wanted to go to the game, but knew it would be an exhausting two weeks for us. Well, we were SO GLAD we did. Tennessee beat Florida for the first time in ELEVEN years that weekend and we were there to witness it a week after being married! #McGangaWedding went out with a bang, that’s for sure!

Please tell me your favorite all-inclusive resort. I would love to hear from you!

Anniversary | Andrew Michael’s Italian Kitchen

Anniversary | Andrew Michael’s Italian Kitchen

Evan and I love to try out new restaurants in Memphis and our anniversary dinner was the perfect occasion to try something new. Evan booked us a table at Andrew Michael’s Italian Kitchen using the Open Table app. (We always use this app when booking reservations) It’s a small restaurant in the heart of east Memphis, located on Brookhaven Circle.

We love their sister restaurant, Hog and Hominy, and had several people recommend AM Italian Kitchen to us. If you’re a picky eater, then you might as well cross this off the list. We love Italian food and are not picky eaters at all so this was right up our alley!

The waiter showed us to our table and wished us a happy anniversary while pointing to a card on the table. The entire staff had signed a card for us. He explained the menu to us and suggested that we choose the “chef’s tasting” if we were unsure of what to order. He said it would be less thinking involved and a pleasant surprise each time because it was five courses. We decided that sounded easy enough, so why not? Each course that was brought out to us was explained by the waitress so that we would know what we were eating. Everything we tried was amazing and we will definitely be going back.

Check out their menu here.

I don’t know about you but I love having an occasion to get dressed up! Check out this super cute fall jumpsuit that I wore Saturday night. I have a hard time finding jumpsuits that aren’t too long for me but this one worked great with my platform sandals. The adjustable straps made it work a lot better too!

Jumpsuit: Nordstrom  | Hoops: Loft  | Clutch: HOBO (on sale)

The valet did not get the best picture of us… HA!

Let me know if you have ever tried this restaurant, or if you have any other restaurant recommendations.
