FabFitFun | Winter Box

My FabFitFun Winter Box arrived a couple of weeks ago, and I felt like a kid in a candy store the day it arrived. Even though I chose most of the items in the box, I was still very excited to open it and check everything out. The items I was looking forward to most were the jade roller and a deep conditioning hair mask… Here is what I thought of all the items:

Mark & Graham Colorblock Throw ($49):

This blanket is so cozy and soft, it definitely gives me all the hygge feels! I actually upgraded my subscription to the Select subscription (for a year), so I could choose the gray and ivory throw to match the sectional in our den. The Select subscription is great because you can choose pretty much everything that goes in your box!

Moroccan Gold Series Treatment Hair Mask ($49):

This deep conditioning treatment is DIVINE! I use it on a day when I have to shave, to be sure to leave it in for the full 5-7 minutes that is recommended. My hair literally felt like silk when I rinsed this stuff out, and when I blow dried my hair after using it, my blowout was so smooth and shiny! I loved that because my hair has a natural wave, and can get frizzy at times. It has a luxurious amber smell that was very pleasant, too. I can definitely tell a difference in the ends of my hair, with reduced split ends, and just an overall smoother look and feel. If you use hot tools on your hair frequently, this is a must try!

Tribe Gold Lust Dry Shampoo ($44):

When it comes to dry shampoos, I usually try to avoid them because pretty much all of them have some sort of aluminum starch as an ingredient, which I don’t think sounds very healthy to be spraying on your scalp… That being said, I did choose this item for my box because sometimes you just need a hair refresher in a pinch! They’re also great to take on weekend getaways to preserve a blowout when you don’t want waste the time on a short vacation doing your hair. This dry shampoo smelled good and gave my hair nice body. I’m definitely keeping it around for emergencies! P.S. If anyone knows a dry shampoo with no aluminum, let me know!

Sherrie Mattnews Acupuncture Jade Stone Roller ($45):

Now I don’t know if this thing will help prevent wrinkles, but it is the bomb! It gives a very relaxing massage on your face, and feels especially good if you use it cold from the refrigerator. My favorite spots to use this are on my forehead/eyebrows (where I get stress from working and spending too much time on computers), massaging under my cheekbones, and rolling it on my neck, behind my ears. With this tool, I’m no longer limited to getting a good face massage only when getting an expensive facial! It works best when used with a face oil, but also works well with regular moisturizer, or a heavier night cream.

Thrive Causemetics Brilliant Eye Brightener in “Stella” ($24):

This highlighter is pretty subtle, but gives a nice sheen. I actually prefer my go-to Eye Bright from Benefit to highlight under my eyebrows, but I have been using this in the corners of my eyes, on the top of my nose, and on my cheekbones and like the subtle highlight it gives.

AHAVA Hydration Cream Mask ($33):

This mask is the perfect addition to the winter box. It is fragrance free, and a nice consistency. I have been using it as an overnight mask. When you put it on you can feel it tightening your skin a little, and I can definitely tell that my skin looks more hydrated when I wake up in the morning. Since I received two hydrating masks in this box (and since this tube is so big), I have actually also been using this on my arms and legs at night! I may not be able to afford to use La Mer all over my body like J Lo, but I can afford to treat myself with all the goodies that come in the Fab Fit Fun box (and use this mask all over my body ;).

BLAQ Hydrogel Eye Mask with Hyaluronic Acid ($29):

These things are awesome, and feel nice and cool on your eyes! I know the box recommends to just leave them on for about 10 minutes, but I have actually been falling asleep with them on! As long as you fall asleep on your back, they will pretty much stay put all night. After waking up, they peel off easily. I could really tell the hydrating effect in the crows feet around my eyes. My eyes don’t really get puffy, so I’m not sure how well they work in that aspect, but if you have puffy eyes I would probably give these a shot! Beware however, if you wear these around your significant other, you will get some baseball and/or football comments.

Whish Overnight Hydrating Mask:

This was a “surprise me” selection that I chose instead of choosing between the Bite Lipstick, the wooden coaster set, and the body sliders by Brooke Burke. I wanted the coasters, but they were already gone by the time I selected my box items! I am also a little weary of random lipsticks because if it ends up having an orange tone, it does not look good on my skin. The cream smells really good, and I did feel a tightening effect when I used it on my face. I stopped using it on my face, however, because I broke out on my chin after using it a couple of nights in a row… My face can be sensitive to fragrances in moisturizers sometimes, so I stopped using it on my face, but have continued to use it on my neck and décolletage and can see a difference.

Despite all this awesome stuff to use in this box, I was a little disappointed when I realized that my box was missing the essential oil duo that I selected instead of an additional body cream this month. I am an essential oil person, so I was really looking forward to trying a new brand of oil (especially because this kind does not have to be diluted before applying to your skin). I contacted customer service, however, and they replied back very quickly that they would correct the mistake, and send the missing item out right away. Was notified yesterday that the missing item should be in this week!

2nd Annual Plaid Party | 2018

Last year, Evan and I decided we wanted to throw a Christmas Party in our new home. We wanted to do something different than the usual “Tacky Christmas Sweater” parties. I debated on what we should do and I think I finally found the idea of the Plaid Party on Pinterest. Everyone seemed to enjoy it last year, so we thought why not make it an annual tradition!

The party didn’t start til 8, so I prepared very little food. I believe we had the exact same food last year! I made some ham rolls using Hawaiian bread, ham, Swiss cheese, mustard and poppy seed. I can’t forget the butter, too! They are so easy and so yummy! My girl, Heather Cannon of All Sugared Up, made some beautiful cookies for me. Seriously, check her out on Instagram, allsugaredup17. My mom makes “white trash” every Christmas season, which is Chex mix, pretzels, and M&M’s smothered in white chocolate. She sent over a tin of that for the party! Melissa brought over some freshly baked monkey bread (be looking for a food Friday post on that). My mom also prepared a delicious cranberry spread that I put over cream cheese. Everyone was asking for the recipe, so here it is:

  • 12 ounces fresh cranberries
  • 4-5 green onions chopped
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and finely diced
  • 1 cup sugar (more or less to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (about one large lemon)
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 2 (8 ounces each) packages of cream cheese light or regular, softened
  • Crackers for serving
  1. Pulse the cranberries in a food processor or blender until coarsely chopped. Add all other ingredients, excluding the cream cheese, until well combined or finely chopped. Transfer the mixture to a covered bowl  and refrigerate for 4 hours (or up to overnight)so the flavors have time to develop and the cranberries lose a bit of their tartness.
  2. When ready to serve, spread the cream cheese in an even layer on a serving plate or 9 inch pie dish. Top with the cranberry-jalapeno mixture, spreading evenly over the top of cream cheese.
  3. Refrigerate for up to an hour before serving. Serve with crackers or tortilla chips.

I only used one package of cream cheese and half of the cranberry-jalapeno mixture to fit it in my moms Christmas tree dish!

Three Tiered Serving Dish: Macy’s (on sale) | Plaid Table Runner: Amazon| Plaid Tablecloth (not pictured): Amazon | Spode Christmas Tree Dish: Macy’s (on sale) | Cheers Spreader: Swoozie’s (also locally at Something Special)

As I have mentioned before, I have a thing for table runners. You should see my hall closet, it is full of table runners and table cloths! I found a pretty plaid runner and table cloth on Amazon this year. I found some plaid napkins, paper plates, and wrapping paper at T.J. Maxx about a month ago. The wrapping paper was used for the backdrop for pictures. I found the tinsel garland at our local Dollar Tree. It wasn’t the prettiest backdrop, but it got the job done! Check out these party people!

My Flannel Top: Abercrombie & Fitch  | My earrings: Kendra Scott (on sale) | Evan’s Plaid Coat: My father’s wardrobe, circa 1970, haha!

Fun was had by all and the ham rolls were completely devoured once again! Until next year, ya’ll! Merry PLAID Christmas from the Gangaware’s!

Married Christmas | Tree Topper

Evan and I are enjoying our third, married Christmas this year. It’s hard to believe we are in year three! He and I have decided not to decorate before Thanksgiving, like a lot of you do (Nothing wrong with that! We just prefer to wait).

We have made it a tradition to start decorating Thanksgiving night, and this year was no different. He brought down all of the decorations that morning before we went to lunch with his family. He thought he would feel more up to climbing steps before our thanksgiving feasts rather than after! Boy, was he right! We enjoyed spending time with my sister and her family so much that we got home a little later than we expected. I put out a few things when we got home, but we were so exhausted from the day we put the majority of it off until the weekend.

I work in retail, so of course I worked that Friday, but Evan got the day off! He spent the day putting the tree together, stringing lights on the back pergola, hanging garland on the front door, AND installing a new light fixture his mom bought for us! He truly is a GEM!

This year, I decided to upgrade my tree topper to something a little more earthy and modern. In the past I used a big bow with several picks coming out of it. I went to Patina the weekend of Thanksgiving and told Marty, the owner, my vision and she helped me pick out some great picks for my tree topper. We went with three holly berry picks and lots of eucalyptus picks. Marty also explained to me how to arrange the picks. She said I need a thriller, filler, and spiller. The holly berry picks are my “thriller”, the eucalyptus picks beneath that are my “filler”, and the ones beneath that pointing out are my “spiller.” I have always done my potted plants this way, but have never heard it worded the way she worded it. I love it! I wanted to keep the traditional red and green colors, so I used a Christmas plaid ribbon that I found at Wal-Mart to tie in the topper colors.  I am pleased with how it turned out.
