New Orleans | February 2019

Several months ago we were told that our good friend growing up was going to get married in New Orleans. We knew immediately that we would be going to that wedding. Who doesn’t love an excuse to go to NOLA? Once they sent out the save the dates and recommended hotels to us we booked The Hotel Monteleone, a luxurious old hotel located in the French Quarter. My parents then told me that my grandparents, Nonnie & Chief, actually stayed at that exact hotel on their honeymoon. That made me even more excited for the trip!

We ended up riding with my parents down there on Friday morning. Once we arrived at the hotel, we freshened up and grabbed a seat at the famous Carousel Bar! We “rode” around at least six or seven times before heading out to dinner. We made reservations at The Court of Two Sisters located in the heart of  The French Quarter on Royal Street. We enjoyed a nice meal on their brick patio with my parents and the Stitt’s! After dinner, Evan and I met up with a couple of friends at Maison Soule, a small bar located off Bourbon Street. It was so cozy and cute with a small jazz band playing in the corner.

Saturday morning, we were on the hunt for beignets and coffee! A friend of mine suggested a place close to the hotel, Cafe Beignet, which was perfect since we did not want to make the walk to Cafe Du Monde just to wait in the long line! The coffee and beignets did not disappoint and the place had a great courtyard for us to enjoy the nice weather.

From there, I met up with Chelsea to get blowouts at a local place about a block away called, Spa Atlantis. We had a great experience and the place was nice and clean with a modern style.

The ceremony was held at the gorgeous St. Louis Cathedral in historic Jackson Square. It was a beautiful ceremony complete with a second line parade (my most favorite part of the entire trip)! I have been to New Orleans several times before and seen these super fun wedding parades, so I was super excited to be a part of one! Each guest was given a white “flag” to wave around as we paraded the streets with a live band to the reception.

The reception was held right on the river at a beautiful venue called Marche. It had two great rooms as well as a terrace balcony over looking Jackson Square and the Mississippi River! They had the most amazing food you could ever ask for such as charbroiled oysters, gumbo, shrimp, brisket, pasta, crawfish étouffée and MORE!

This wedding was definitely one for the books! We enjoyed every second in the Big Easy and wish we could have stayed longer! Congrats to our friends, Elaine and Jones!

The bell hop made a great recommendation for the photo above! I love the way it turned out! If you have been to New Orleans before, tell me about your experience! I would love to hear from you!

Spontaneous Trip | Nashville, TN

A couple of months ago, a friend of mine signed me up for last-minute ticket deals to the Nashville Predators. They send out a text with special price tickets the day before a game. Most texts were for weekday games. I told Evan that next time they text me and it’s a weekend game I’m going to get the tickets! I told him if I knew we didn’t have any plans I would go ahead and get them before they sold out. I honestly don’t think he believed I would do it. Last Friday, I got the text and jumped on it. Once I bought the tickets, I texted Evan and said “Guess who’s going to the Preds game?” He responded with, “Are you serious?” followed by a phone call.

We drove to Nashville a little after lunch on Saturday. Our hotel was in The Gulch area of downtown Nashville which is a neighborhood with lots of great restaurants and shopping! We did not have enough time to shop unfortunately, but we did make it to Adele’s for appetizers and drinks before the game.

After the game we stopped in at one of the three-story bars on Broadway, then made our way back to the Gulch area. We wanted to try Whiskey Kitchen before the game, but it was too long of a wait. So we decided to try again because we were still hungry! We got right in and ordered a pizza to split before heading back to our room. It was a neat atmosphere and the pizza was yummy!

Sunday morning, we had reservations at The Southern, a restaurant recommended by a good friend of ours. It was busy as it could be at 10AM when it opened! We knew right away it would be a good place to eat! Evan ordered the steak and biscuit Benedict which was grilled tenderloin on an open face biscuit with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. I ordered the southern fried egg sandwich that came with bacon, cheese, and a red pepper aioli sauce on Texas toast with French fries! We love all things brunch: the mimosas, the coffee and of course the delicious food!

Cheers to our spontaneity!

We have another weekend trip in mind, but we’ll see if it pans out before I share! Until then, we will be heading to NOLA in a couple of weeks! Thanks for stopping by everyone. Let me know your favorite spots to dine in Nashville!

Honeymoon | St. Lucia

Honeymoon | St. Lucia

Anyone undecided about their honeymoon or vacation destination needs to read this. We traveled to St.Lucia for our honeymoon on the Sunday after our wedding. We booked our honeymoon with Travelennium using Rebecca Dawson as our agent. It was our first big trip together, so we wanted to make sure we did it right. Let me tell you, we definitely did it RIGHT!

We booked an all-inclusive resort, Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort, for five nights. As soon as we arrived at the resort we had a butler waiting on us with drinks! He took our bags and showed us to our room that walked right out onto the beach.

Our room was amazing and did I mention it was right on the beach!? While on the beach, we had a waitress that brought us our towels as well as any food and drink we wanted. We tried out the local beer, Piton, that was named for the mountains surrounding the resort. It tasted a lot like a corona, so we enjoyed it! The waitress even brought us a cold towel to cool off.

There were four or five restaurants on the resort grounds for us to choose from. Our butler was in charge of booking our reservations for dinner. All of the food was wonderful, but our favorite was definitely the sushi bar. We had dinner most nights at the top of the resort with this amazing view.

This resort is referred to as a boutique resort which means it is a small upscale resort. It is so small that we only saw about five or six other couples while we were there.

They left a sweet treat on our bed each day. I took a photo of this one because it’s macaroons. We often call my nephew, Mac, macaroon! 🙂

Who remembers the original Nokia cellphone with the game snake? We each had our own Nokia phone to contact our butler. And yes, that is Evan playing snake! 🙂

We added a resort registry to our wedding website and were fortunate enough to get a few gifts from that. We were gifted a scuba diving session and were able to go 50 feet deep. I wish I’d had an underwater camera with me while we did that. It was seriously like “Finding Nemo” to me. It was really cool to see the coral reef and all the different fish. Our instructor took an underwater dry erase type board down there with us so he could tell us what each fish was.
We were also gifted resort bucks to spend on whatever we wanted. It rained one morning so we took advantage of the spa and enjoyed a couples massage.  If you check out the website, you will see how awesome the Rainforest Spa looks.

We had such a fun week as newlyweds on this beautiful island! You should definitely consider this resort for your next tropical vacation.

img_3652We flew back on that Friday into Knoxville so that we could meet our family for the Florida game. Evan and I went back and forth about whether we should go to Knoxville or not. We both, of course, wanted to go to the game, but knew it would be an exhausting two weeks for us. Well, we were SO GLAD we did. Tennessee beat Florida for the first time in ELEVEN years that weekend and we were there to witness it a week after being married! #McGangaWedding went out with a bang, that’s for sure!

Please tell me your favorite all-inclusive resort. I would love to hear from you!
