Valentine’s Day | Tradition

Do you have a tradition for Valentine’s Day? Evan and I started a tradition our first year of marriage and I love it. His favorite meal of all time is his grandmother’s spaghetti and meatballs. I was finally given the recipe after we were married! (not kidding!) For the past three years, I have made his grandmother’s homemade spaghetti and meatballs for us on Valentine’s. We use our fine china and crystal and sit in the dining room together. It’s fun and makes it a little more intimate than just sitting at the kitchen table or island with our everyday dishes! Sometimes we still make plans to go out to dinner too because we do love trying new restaurants and we use any opportunity to do so! This year we are going to New Orleans the day after Valentine’s Day for a wedding, so we did not make plans to go out to dinner.

We celebrated on Sunday this year because it is time-consuming to make and makes lots of leftovers! We did not want to leave all that food uneaten while we head down to New Orleans! I do not decorate for Valentine’s Day, but I did use red napkins for the occasion! Check out our Valentine’s “date”!

We didn’t end up getting a picture of the two of us unfortunately. We enjoyed a formal sit down meal together with wine, Caesar salad, spaghetti and meatballs, and garlic bread! It was yummy if I do say so myself! The only thing missing was tiramisu! I hope we continue to carry on this tradition in the years to come.

Thanksgiving | 2018

The holidays are in full swing around here! My mom has committed to putting her house on the Christmas Tour of Home’s benefiting the local Carl Perkins Center this year, so Christmas decor is everywhere at her house! I tried to sneak some photos without Christmas decorations to show you a preview of our Thanksgiving Day plans!

My mom hosts Thanksgiving and Christmas at her house every year, God bless her! Years ago, we would have Thanksgiving and Christmas at my grandparents, but with aging grandparents we switched it to my parents home. This year we will have a Thanksgiving dinner, so that Evan and I can have lunch with his family. We have the typical Thanksgiving day spread, but I still want to share our menu with you because it may differ a bit from yours!

I went to moms one morning to help her set the table for dinner. We sipped coffee and discussed the menu and what each person should bring. I love my mom’s china, Royal Albert’s Old Country Roses , it’s such a timeless pattern. I feel like everyone now sticks to the neutrals, and I can’t say that I don’t do the same, but some color never hurt! Old Country Roses has more pieces to offer than any other China pattern I have ever seen. My mom has grown quite the collection over the years and still doesn’t have it all. It is definitely the gift that keeps on giving for her. We used her china dinner plates and gold chargers to set the table. Her flatware is not current so I would only be able to link replacements.

Fall Decor

When you live in the south, you do not have a true fall season. Sure, we break out the pumpkins and mums, but it’s still 90 degrees outside! Football season is the start of fall in my opinion. It just puts you in the mood for all things cool weather related, even when it is still HOT.

I hung my fall door hangers the last weekend in August. I couldn’t wait any longer! Last year I asked my dear family friend, Gwinn Stitt, if she could make me some pretty door hangers. She made these using a paper umbrella as the holder. She is the BOMB! A good friend of mine gave me some pumpkins that she grew in her yard and I found the gourds at Naifeh’s Cash Saver.

I don’t have a whole lot of fall decor, but I have a table runner for every season/occasion. Table runners are my thing for some reason. Therefore, I set my kitchen table with my fall table runner, orange dishes, gingham napkins, and cotton tumblers. My centerpiece is a glass vase I filled with wine corks and pumpkins. When Christmas comes, I fill it with wine corks and ornaments.

This table runner was actually a wedding gift, but I am positive I have seen it at Home Goods. I purchased the napkins back in the spring when I was getting ready to host Easter at my house. I drooled over some in the Pottery Barn catalog, but could not convince myself to spend that much on napkins. I decided to look for some on Amazon and ended up finding these. I have loved them so much and they wash well! I am not necessarily a fan of Fiestaware, but when my mother in law found a small set of orange at a yard sale, I had to have it. It works for Fall and for Tennessee football parties :). I bought the placemats several years ago from Pottery Barn, and they almost need replacing. The sun has faded them a lot over the years, but I am still holding on to them. The Cotton tumblers came from my granny’s house. My Pop was a manager for the Federal Compress, so my granny has accumulated a lot of cotton things over the years. I mentioned that I liked them one day and she let me have them.

My dining room decor was an after thought. I originally had not planned on decorating in there, but decided to throw something together. I may add more to it next year, but it will have to do for now.

Our back patio is our favorite spot to be during the fall. We enjoy watching football and grilling out with friends. We are looking forward to using the outdoor fireplace as soon as this weather breaks! One day, I plan on adding a mantle to the outdoor fireplace. I will update you on that once we get one.
